Morning rituals for successful days

Being in #DHschool, or being an #RDH is not easy. We need something that gets us going in the morning. Especially, if you are in your last semester and getting close to the dental hygiene board exams (NBDHE, NDHCE, CSCE, WREB, CRDTS), it may even be more important to be productive. There is no magic pill for that, but there is ONE thing successful people have in common: It’s the Morning Ritual.

Mark Zuckerberg (of Facebook) puts in the same shirt every day, Russel Simons gets the same drink every morning… The idea is that by doing the same things, you are telling your body and mind that it is now time to get going.

I know, but life takes over. We have to respond to unpredictable events in the morning. Our schedule may be different every morning depending on the clinic schedule or class schedule. If you are a #DHSchool student, here is the reason why you should really start a morning ritual: Because you ultimately want to be ready for the days you are taking the dental hygiene boards, whether it is the NBDHE, NDHCE, CSCE, WREB, or CRDTS. If your body and mind are used to a certain routine and you know you will do the same the day of the exam, I promise you; you will perform better.

Think about it. Nobody performs the best the first time. Look at the singers who audition for The Voice. They practiced their signing routine again and again. They would be fools to go on that stage without rehearsing. Michael Phelps, Olympian for swimming has his successful swimming ritual engraved in his body and head. This applies to dental hygiene students too. It would be irresponsible to not prepare for the big day. If you would like to start a routine, here are are some tips (from those who have been successful):

  • Make it short (do not spend more than 1 hour for the routine)
  • Create a 3-6 steps process
  • The ritual needs to be done first thing in the morning

If you feel motivated, create it RIGHT NOW!

Here is my example: I sit on my bed and stretch -> I meditate for 5-10 minutes -> I drink water -> I put on my makeup -> I make/drink my smoothie -> I drink my coffee while reviewing my daily to-do list.

I tried so many times to squeeze in workout time, but honestly, I just gave up. This quick morning ritual is all I need to have my body and mind ready to tackle the day. Please take the time to write down your ritual you would like to create. Make sure to try hard, really hard, until it becomes second nature. Then, on the morning of the dental hygiene board exams, you will do the same thing. This way, you will feel a whole lot more comfortable for the entire exam.
